Mosquito Repellent: https://amzn.to/3uf11cq – Amazon
Mosquitoes in Bali are not just regular mosquitoes; many carry diseases that can make you very ill and even land you in a hospital. Make sure that you pack enough mosquito repellent to keep these little blood suckers as far away from you as possible.
Day Bag: https://amzn.to/3nt79Kf – Amazon
Day bags, or small backpacks, can improve your trip. You will likely want to carry many things with you: camera gear, a first aid kit, mosquito repellent, to name a few. As you will be toting the bag around all day, you want to make sure you pick one out that is comfortable and lightweight.
Cross-body Fanny Pack: https://amzn.to/3ub04C3 – Amazon
Pickpocketing happens everywhere in the world. Therefore, it is important that you wear something tight against your body to safeguard your money and important documents. I did not want to pack the fanny pack I already owned because I was afraid I would lose it or get it dirty. I decided to purchase this one linked above, and I loved it. It is affordable, spacious, and high quality. It fits my phone, passport, glasses, lip balm, wallet, and phone SD card adapter.
Universal Power Adapter: https://amzn.to/3bGptx8 – Amazon
Whatever you do, do not forget a universal adapter. If you have the newest iPhone charger, you will regret forgetting a universal adapter. If you forget it, you risk having to purchase one in Bali that could possibly mess up your phone. I have ordered this universal adapter twice because I lost my first one. It works great and allows for multiple plug-ins.
Reef-Safe Sunscreen: https://amzn.to/3a8cV12 – Amazon
Sunscreen is extremely important no matter where you go. Make sure that you look at the ingredients in your sunscreen to verify that there are no chemicals in it that can harm the coral. When purchasing sunscreen, look for the phrase “Reef-Safe.” Here is a brand that I personally love and always pack in my carry-on.
Face Sunscreen: https://amzn.to/3bFkjBk -Amazon
Again, sunscreen is important. Here is the exact same brand as above but for your face.
Lip Balm: https://amzn.to/3y9zytL – Amazon
Your lips will chap easily as Bali is extremely hot and dry. You will want to keep your lips hydrated to keep them from cracking and burning. I love this lip balm because it keeps my lips moisturized for several hours, so I don’t have to apply constantly.
Leave-in Conditioner: https://amzn.to/3I5dJQF – Amazon
Oh my! My hair was a mess. I tried to look for a leave-in conditioner at local Bali stores, but they did not have any (or at least I did not see any). I use this brand linked above at home. It works wonders, and I would suggest you pack one for your trip to Bali as the weather is super hot and humid. You will be having a bad hair day everyday if you accidentally forget it.
First Aid Kit: https://amzn.to/3NBnqHP – Amazon
You might be thinking, “A first aid kit is unnecessary.” Let me tell you, I thought the exact same thing. Well, sure enough, on our snorkeling excursion, Andrew, my very smart and intelligent husband, decided to fly his drone in the middle of the ocean. There were heavy waves that prevented the boat from staying still, but that did not concern Andrew. When it was time to bring back the drone, the boat kept moving, so the drone was unable to land. Andrew, not knowing the damage it can cause, asked me to grab it. Sure enough, it sliced my finger eighteen times. You may be wondering, “Did you cry?” The answer is yes. Ha ha ha—I had a whole panic attack. For a second, I thought I had lost my finger. At that moment, I wished we had packed an emergency first aid kit in our day bag, but, of course, we had never thought to pack one as it’s not something we normally carry with us. I had to wrap my finger in a dirty wet shirt and pray it would not get infected. I learned my lesson so that you would not have to. Do not travel without a first aid kit, ever!
Lightweight Water Bottle: https://amzn.to/3bH0zgx – Amazon
Always try to find lightweight products. I personally loved this silicone water bottle that scrunched up as I was drinking my water.
Important Documents:
Visas: You can apply for a visa on arrival in Bali, but I would recommend that you do this in advance rather than waiting until your arrival. The reason for this is because not applying in advance will result in a longer wait time for you at the Bali airport. Oftentimes, there is a crowd, and standing in the line will get annoying. The arrival process at the airport in Bali is like no other. When we arrived at the airport, the process took us an hour, and this was during a time when there was little to no traffic.
Covid-19 Vaccination Card: If you are vaccinated, you no longer need to provide a negative covid exam. Bali, Indonesia is officially open, and so is the U.S. However, if you accidentally forget your vaccination card, you are in for a treat. You will need to call your doctor and hope that they have your information on file so that you have some sort of proof to provide. If they have no information for you. You will need to search for a covid-19 testing center near the airport. If you can not provide any of this information they will turn you away and you will have to re-book your flight. Update: It is 2024 you won't need this anymore.
Travel Insurance: Whatever you do, do not forget your travel insurance information. I recommend that you print copies and carry them in your luggage. It is important that you have travel insurance when traveling to Bali or anywhere else out of the country. You will regret it if you accidentally catch “Bali belly,” a horrible stomach virus that makes you extremely sick.
ECD Form: You can fill out this form at the airport in Bali; however, most of the time they do not provide pens, so you will be stuck waiting for someone to allow you to borrow their pen. I will attach the link for you. Fill it out 24 hours before arriving in Bali.
